Coach Simpson grew up in Waynesburg, PA where he guided the football team to a WPIAL Championship and earned state medals in both shot put and wrestling. Lanfer was a multiple time place winner at Cadet and Junior Nationals in Fargo, ND. His 4,010 career rushing yards, 115+ tackles every year, and his individual state medals made him an easy choice for the Observer Reporter’s Athlete of the Year.

Lanfer went on to West Virginia University where he was a Division I two-sport athlete as a football player and heavyweight wrestler for the mountaineers. After graduation, Lanfer coached wrestling at Waynesburg University alongside legendary coach Ron Headlee.

In the SHWA room, Coach Simpson is a patient and knowledgeable presence with unique insight into upper weight techniques and tactics.

Coach Simpson currently resides in Waynesburg with his wife Kristin and his two sons Landon and Lincoln. He works as a Manager for EQT and is a Pastor at Mapletown Methodist Church.
